Long Walks

Since my mum is on vacation, I have to walk to and from school. Normally, I just walk home because then I can just take my time, but now I'm doubling that. I got home today and I was pretty tired because it is a 25 minute walk from my house to the school. I'm happy though because I just got 50 minutes of exercise from doing something simple 👌

Blog Improvements

Somethings that I can improve on in my blog are posting more often, and I think a more variety of posts. As other people have been doing that and I think that's the reason why their blog looks so good.

Interim Report Card

I think that I deserve a G in PE. I always bring gym strip, there hasn't been a day where I haven't brought it or worn it. I'm never late. I'm not much of a leader, but I try to contribute to the class in small ways; sometimes I help with equipment, the other day I suggested something to change the game of hide and go seek tag. I always encourage my peers to be the best they can be. Therefore, I think I deserve a G.

Hide & Go Seek

We played hide and go seek tag today, Simran was the organizer (because she is soon going to start a revolution let's be real here). I think she always does an excellent job to be honest, I hope to get that kind of confidence some day. One thing that I could've done better was to make the boundaries smaller, so the game would be more challenging, and they would be quicker. I contributed to the activity today because I suggested to do grade 10's vs 9's and I was pretty happy that we got to do so! I also put away the jerseys in the equipment room.

Beep test

Beep test: 6 (Incredibly proud of mself because I've been in the 5.9 range for the longest time)
Flexibilty: 0

Jump and Reach: 235
T-Test: 15s
Balance: 11
Pushups: 10 in 30s (on knees)

I think what I need to work on is more self motivation, and I had a lot of that on tuesday which is why I got a 6 on the beep test. Definetly going to keep pushing for a 6.5-7 !

Dodgeball

We played three games of dodgeball and it was crazy fun. I actually sweat during a game of dodgeball which is new. I really had fun; we were in charge of the activity and I think thats what made a difference. I don't think anyone could've handled it better than Simran to be honest. I'm okay with leading a game, but I don't feel like I could be ask in control as she was. Maybe I'm wrong! (: xx

Triple Threat

So for fitness tuesday, we did the triple threat, which is basically three people doing different excersises for a minute then rotating. I'm so freaking sore in my core (that rhymed heh). I tried very hard, but I felt I could do better; there were times when I gave up. I don't have pictures with me right now, but I'll post them when I can retrieve them. :)

Locomotion

Today in fitness, we did locomotion. I gave my hundred percent today, and I did not quit at all. Before coming into the gym I was pretty happy that it was the fitness activity, as I really enjoy it. I was so exhausted that I took an hour nap after school! My thighs were hurting so bad walking to my next class, that I was shaking with every step. Our class was doing really good, but I would not say the same about others. It was a really great fitness activity, and I tried to set a good example for the grade 8's.

Why Pallvi is awesome

Pallvi is awesome because she is so BEYONCÉ

Goals

My goals for the weight room is to be able to the work out that I linked earlier without stopping. I also desire to have better upper body strength and to do decent push ups.

Weight room work out

Pallvi & I did a upper arm strength video!! http://youtu.be/CRGrcSDhynQ

We chose it because it's great for people that do martial arts, as we need a ton of upper body strength for when we do kicks, and such. Here is a picture of our beautiful faces.

Final Post

1) Participation

In terms of gym strip, absences, and punctuality, I would say that I always bring gym strip, I bring a note or an excuse note if I'm not participating in PE, or if I was absent once or twice. I never come late to class, and am always on time. I like to keep my friends motivated and participate in activities, even if I don't like them I try to make the day fun, by encouraging my friends or having a good time with them. On choice days, I always choose an activity that I like, for example my friends and I really like to do volleyball; we find it fun. Even if I don't like an activity or fitness, I try really hard.

2) Social Responsibility and Contribution to the Class

I think that I have contributed a lot in terms of encouraging others, and making sure that my peers are having fun, and no one has a negative attitude towards things. Whenever my friends give up on something, I always try to motivate them to do better, and I try to inspire them to feel confident and good about themselves in PE by making connections to what I do outside of school. I try to help around, like when we did the activity where we had to choose workouts from the iPads, I brought the yoga mats by myself. The volunteer work that I do at taekwondo has improved my leadership and communication skills in class; I'm not as shy anymore of be a leader.

3) Healthy Living

I think I have made a few dietary changes, I don't eat unnecessarily, like when I'm bored or binge eating. I make sure that I get the nutrients I need by eating lots of fruits and vegetables. My fitness scores definitely teach me a lot, but they also help me improve in other areas. I can safely say that my fitness level, and my eating habits are ten times better than they were in grade 8. I hardly did any extra curriculars then, and now that I am, my endurance is so much better. Since we do a lot of runs in PE, I'm a better runner in field hockey as I have practiced pacing. The extra curricular activities that I do also keep me fit, and they help me in fitness as well. I hated runs at the beginning of field hockey, but now I've grown to like them with the help of fitness and PE

4) Digital Portfolio and Reflective skills

I feel like peer editing, is a really good idea; you learn somethings about yourself that's not only from a teacher, but from people in your surroundings. I feel like the quality of my blog is pretty good, as I included, and tried to meet, all of the criteria. The one thing that I would say my blog is lacking, is that I can't get many videos or pictures; I don't have access to a device all the time. A few goals that I have for the future are to keep improving my stamina, and improve on upper body strength a lot more. In conclusion, I feel that PE 9 has been a big change for me in terms of my fitness and health, as I have made some good choices and changes, that have been affecting me in a positive way.

Vegetarian Diet Is Not Just Salad

Since I am a vegetarian, protein is a bit of a challenge to consume, as I don't eat meat. My mum however, always encourages me to eat lots of lentils, beans, and tofu. Something that I like that she makes is probably stir fry tofu with vegetables, because it is freaking delicious. I'm trying to eat more proteins instead of carbohydrates, because that is like poison for a vegetarian. I don't have a photo of what she made, but I do have the recipe, and the link is below. I think having a lot of variety of foods is good for me, and it gives me the nutrients I need.

Choices and Responsibilities

In PE, I am responsible for how well I do and my learning. I feel like I generally make good choices in PE; I don't do things that I'm not supposed to do, and I surround myself with the right kind of people that will motivate me and support me. For example, I don't skip PE even though I have the choice to skip. I don't have to bring gym strip, and I don't have to participate, but I still do. I do all of these things because I want a healthy life style, and I don't want exercise to seem like a chore, but sometime that I like to do, so I try to make it fun for me. The choices I make in class affect me, my peers, and my overall mark in this class. I think that they are affecting me in a positive way, as I am improving in physical activity in sports I do after school. For example, because we did the pond run, community run, and the beep test, I can run two laps around a field hockey field without stopping. I am hoping to continue to make good choices that will help me in the future.

What PE 9 Has Taught Me

I have compiled a list of things that I have learned during PE in grade 9:

1. Having a positive attitude makes the class more fun

2. Its usually a good choice to do things with friends

3. Partner up with someone that brings you up, not takes you down

4. Make goals

5. Always give more than expected

6. Take personal responsibility

7. Keep an open mind

8. Don't do something just because others are doing it

9. Deadlines are important

10. Water beats gatorade

Summer Goals

In the summer, I am going to try to stay fit, by doing a lot more workouts. I plan on going for runs, as I think PE has taught me to like them, eat healthy, try to do other things instead of go on the internet all the time. Also, I'd like to work my core a little more. I want to be fit for grade 10, so that the first few weeks of PE won't be a struggle for me.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Some of my strengths in PE are that I try to motivate others, and I don't give up. Even if I'm dying in the community run I do the best I can, and I always try to set goals for myself, and I like to help others set goals for themselves. A few of my weaknesses, is that I'm not always motivated, and sometimes I can have a bit of a negative attitude towards things. For example, I really dread the beep test because I always feel like I'll do really bad, but then sometimes I don't mind it. Ocassionally a few times before fitness, I always complain about what we might do. What I'm going to try and do, is to have a more positive attitude and look at the bright side of things !

Loco Motion

This is also VERY long over due. We did loco motion, and I did some physical activity after being sick for a very long time, and I was pretty impressed with myself. I did moderately well for someone that was recovering, and I didn't give up even when opportunity was given. I like loco motion because it gives me a chance to be a lot more independant, and I always feel like I work a lot harder when I am alone.

Strikes Affecting PE

We haven't done a lot of PE in a really long time because of strikes and band, like the last time we had fitness was on tuesday after a period of three weeks or so. I hope that we have a full week of school; I'd like to have some fun outside in PE

Capture The Flag

About last week or so, we played a very interesting game of capture the flag. I didn't really like it as it confused me and I didn't know what to do. I also thought that we should've made the teams better.  I prefer to do stuff like choice, where we get to choose the activity we would like to do.

Community Run

So this is really long overdue, but we did the community run on Tuesday, and it was pretty good in my opinion. I think I did better because I was on my own, and I wasn't relying on anyone to catch up with me. During the run at first, I got a really bad cramp, but after a while I was doing good. I came back a few minutes before the bell rang for lunch (as it was a flex day).

Where'd Fitness go?

So we haven't done fitness in 3 weeks and thats kind of sucked because I feel really out of shape, and I like fitness.

Field Hockey Game Was Successful!

We won our first field hockey game! The score was 1-0, and believe it or not I scored. It was a really intense game, since we were against Team India. I was really proud of myself because I didn't think I was capable of scoring. The weather was really nice, so that made the game fun. I feel like I did better this time, because I was more into the game and I was more aware of my surroundings. For next time I'm going to work on my accuracy, and trying to keep up my stamina.

Circuit

Today for fitness, we did the circuit. It was outside on the upper field, and there were a lot of stations. I liked the one where we had to push the sled because we were all working together in our groups as a team, and that was nice. I felt like the fitness was really short, and I wish that it wasn't that hot outside, but it was fun all together. I thought it was okay, I didn't really like it and I didn't dislike it.

Field Hockey Game In The Rain :(

Yesterday I played field hockey in the pouring rain. It kinda sucked cause the rain kept getting in my eyes and I couldn't see, and it was freezing cold considering we wear skirts and play. However, it was fun because we tied the game! The score was 2-2, and it was pretty intense because we got the second goal with 5 minutes left of the game. Our team has been improving; we're getting more goals and getting better when it comes to working as a team, but our team needs to focus on positioning.

Blog Quality

So today I looked over a bunch of blogs, and I must say some of them were pretty rad. However I have to talk about my blog now. I hope that my blog is nice and enjoyable to read, and I feel like my blog is not good nor bad, but kind of in between. I feel like I could improve on including more posts and posting more consistently, as I do many activities throughout the days, but I always forget. I suppose that could be my goal. I'm also going to try to post more photos as a visual representation, so that people don't get bored reading all time. :) x

No PE D:

We haven't been doing PE at all this week because of band, but thats okay because I'm looking forward to going outside next week, and playing speedminton outside. I like to play that with Janelle, Sarah, and Katia since they make PE really fun :) x

Taekwondo volunteering

I started volunteering at taekwondo a few months ago, for the white belt to yellow belt class. It is the most fun thing ever! The kids are so small, and its funny because they have no idea what to do most of the time. I usually hold the pads when we do line kicking, and I assist my masters. Its good because then I can get my volunteer hours done quickly, and I can work out a little bit! I only go on mondays though, because on wednesdays they do sparring and there isn't much to do since they are always in partners. Its nice having little kids look up to you :)

Field Hockey

I'm pretty excited because field hockey season has started again! I haven't been playing for very long, only a year, but I hoping to improve my game, and get better at different positions other than forward. I go for practise once a week at tamanawis park, but it sucks that practise is so late at night :( the games are on sundays. I play for the Mako Sharks :) Spring has gotten me so busy!

Weight Room Workouts

So here is one of the workouts Simran, Janelle, Sarah, Katia, and I chose. We chose this workout because, we want to work our cores. I especially want to become more toned in my stomach, so I thought this was a pretty good workout. After we were done, I felt really good, and I'm gonna try to do it more often. It was pretty fun doing the workout as we are all friends, so it wasn't awkward or anything. I liked that the girl in this video was so encouraging, and kept us motivated. But overall, it was a fun day in the weight room, since we were actually trying hard, and doing a real work out. x

Fitness Last Friday

Fitness last friday, was alright. It was a bit confusing at times because I didnt't know whether or not we were taking a break for thirty seconds or fourty, but other wise it was pretty okay. Although I do prefer when we do stuff like locomotion, or pond run, because I enjoy independant activities. But hey, at least it wasn't the beep test ;) x

Mark for the semester

Wow, it has been a while! Well, Mr. Neuf asked us to write a grade that we would give ourselves, so here it is (:

I would I say I give myself an "B", because I work really hard in PE, and I try hard as well. I actually enjoy PE a lot more this year than I did last year, and every time its third block on day two, I always look forward to having a good time. I constantly bring gym strip, and I'm always ready. I try to be enthusiastic about doing things that I'm not good at, like the beep test, etc. My friends always make PE fun, and it ends up being a good day, whenever I do something physical. My fitness level has gotten a lot higher, since I don't get tired very often, as I used to last year. For example, when I did the pond run, I ran the whole time, except when the whistle blew to stop and walk for a minute. So in all, I would give myself a "B", because I am proud of what I accomplished.
